Bertol is a famous mountain hut located at the very end of our valley. It’s mostly well known for its location in the middle of the Chamonix to Zermatt Haute Route and the Patrouille des Glaciers (the worldโs most renowned ski mountaineering race). It’s quite an impressive experience to go there as it’s built literally on the top of a rock and can only be accessed via impressive ladders ๐ .
I really love to ski tour to Bertol when the hut opens in March as it offers insane views over the glaciers (and the surrounding peaks) and they also have pretty good coffee and cakes (nice french press… not the instant coffee ๐ ). The itinerary to the hut is not super technical (PD / 2.2 / E1) but there are 1-2 passage that can require ski crampons (and sometimes even normal crampons) and it’s a bit long. And of course, you need to be comfortable climbing the big ladder at the end that goes to the hut ๐
Here are a few pictures to give you a little taste ๐
